Welcome to Urban Bench Designs! If a bench near you has an unusual slat pattern, support profile, or dedication plate, we would enjoy hearing about it. Walking notes and photo comparisons are welcome too, whether from a single street or a longer survey route.

John Rawls is widely recognized as the most influential political philosopher of the 20th century. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Rawls birth and the 50th anniversary of A Theory of Justice, Routledge is putting open access a series of studies that critically engages with his work. HT Jane.

If you’re interested in how Rawls’ ideas (and other theories of distributive justice) can help us frame and advance equity in transport policies, self promotion alert you might wanna have a look at this paper below. Ungated version here.

  • Pereira, R. H., Schwanen, T., & Banister, D. (2017). Distributive justice and equity in transportation. Transport Reviews, 37(2), 170-191.

This was definitely one of the most challenging and transformative research experiences I’ve been through. Even after 4 years of the publication, I’m still am quite happy with the result and I’m chuffed that the study has become one the most cited papers in the Transport Reviews journal.
